Hosea - Love of a Jealous Kind

Hosea 6:1-6

April 26, 2026

1. Review as best you remember how inconsiderate of the Lord Israel had been and continues to be since God chose the descendants of Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3.

  • How has God sought to love and care for Israel?

  • How has Israel rejected God and turned away from Him over and over?

  • What does Israel's disobedience remind you of in your life and experience?

  • Discuss the patience and forbearance of God with Israel until Hosea 6.

2. As you read Hosea 6:1-3, what is your initial impression of the words Israel says?

  • How does knowing what has happened in Hosea 1 - 5 help interpret what is being said by Israel here?

  • What had God stated in Hosea 5 that brings clarity to what the nation is saying to Him in early chapter 6?

  • How do verses 4 - 6 clearly define God's view of the words of verses 1 -3?

  • How does this discussion relate to item 1 above?

  1. Three days was mentioned in Hosea 6:2. How does this and other things in Hosea 6:1-6 show Jesus?

  2. Israel apparently was putting words in God's mouth and interpreting what God had said without actually listening to Him.

  • What is the danger of treating God and His Word that way?

  • What tools can we who follow Jesus put to use to protect us from misusing and misinterpreting God's Word?

  • Discuss the particular danger of applying something specifically for a Bible person or a Bible experience to your life today - what principles can we use to keep from getting off track in our interpretation and application of biblical principles?

5. Discuss the part God takes in our salvation and any part we take - how does this cause discomfort in our understanding?

- Read Philippians 2:12,13 and Romans 10:9,10. Then read Philippians 2:8-

10. How does God work in us?

- From those 3 passages above, how much does our salvation depend on us?
